        I really enjoyed this section of the course because I was able to refocus my classroom materials and make them more user friendly for my students.  In the past, I spent a lot of time creating a Google Calendar that was linked to my Google Site.  However, very few of my students referenced the calendar.  Instead, they would regularly access Google Classroom and my unit assignment sheet (see roadmap) for all their information.  This course allowed me to take the time to simplify all of that information to a simple Google Site with a link to each of the "roadmaps" or each of the Unit Overviews for the school year.  Rather than accessing my website, google drive, and numerous other locations for materials, everything can be accessed though the Unit Overview which is posted on my website and on Google Classroom.

          I also reworked my course roadmap (i.e. Unit Overview/ Unit Assignment Sheet).  My Unit Overview will now include hyperlinks to all class notes, worksheets, and answer keys required for my course.  Everything is easily labeled so that my students can find everything they need from one location.

          I also really enjoyed creating the screencast to walk my students through my learning managment system and roadmap (see video explanation above).  It gave me more confidence in my ability to create screencasts, and I would like to continue to create screencasts for my students and their parents.  These screencasts would be a great resource on Curriculum Night.  I plan on linking various informational screencasts to my website that my parents can reference throughout the school year (or those parents who aren't able to attend curriculum night can view).  Screencasts are so easy to create, but they can provide so much more information than a written explanation.

    I look forward to getting as comfortable as you are with online resources. I hope to someday get to the point where I am reworking things from the lessons I learn throughout the school year. I too enjoyed the screencast, and will definitely be taking it into the school year with me. It will be so great to have as a tool for parents as well as when I am unable to push into classes. This way, students won't miss out on a learning opportunity, and I can follow up with them in a variety of ways because of the knowledge and tools I have gained from this class.

Hello Everyone!  My name is Katie Simmons, and I am entering my 4th year at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, IL.  Next year I will be teaching Geometry, Algebra 2, and Honors Precalculus.  Last year 3 of my classes were 1:1, and I loved the opportunities that it opened for my students.  My favorite tools were Desmos and Google Classroom.  I am excited for next year when our whole school will be one to one. I am completing this course in order to obtain an Instructional Technology Endorsement and a Master's from St. Francis.  These courses as well as courses I have taken through EdTech have been very helpful by allowing me to practice using various technology tools that I can integrate into my classroom in order to enhance instruction. Resources Garden Project PBL Differentiated Versions of PBL Reflection           For this artifact I included both by Garden Project PBL and the three differentiated versions of the PBL.  For the PBL, I created a Garden Project in which my students are required to calculate the amount of mulch, flowers, and fencing is needed for a garden given various specifications.  The project requires students to calculate sector area and the length of an arc within the project.  The students are also given a budget, and they must adjust their calculations accordingly in order to stay within budget.  I begin Semester 2 with this project, and I end Semester 2 with a similar project in which students need to design a floor plan for a house.  This is a great into PBL activity to prepare my students for the end of year project. Resource            Standardized Assessment Blog Post Reflection           For this blog post, I researched Khan Academy as a program to help students prepare for the SAT.  I was so blown away by the free, personalized resources that Khan Academy provides.  Students are able to connect their scores from college board in order to create a customized study plan.  Khan Academy even creates study plans based on the amount of time the student has to prepare for the test.           Programs like Khan Academy are so important because they even the playing field for students.  Students who are not able to afford private test prep tutoring or extensive preparatory classes are not at a huge advance over other students.  This will in turn help all students earn higher scores on the SAT and thus provide them with more opportunities for financial aid for college.      ...
